Overview

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is included in the 4-day Uganda wildlife safari. The safari includes a launch cruise through Queen Elizabeth National Park, beautiful game viewing, and a chance to see the renowned tree-climbing lions of the Ishasha region. This trip can either start from Kigali or Entebbe, Uganda.

Queen Elizabeth National Park 
Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s second-largest national park after Murchison Falls. More than 96 different animal species, 610 different bird species, the majority of East Africa’s hippos, and the renowned Ishasha tree-climbing lions call this region home.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park  
Due to the ecological diversity of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park, is home to half of the population of the critically endangered gorilla species.

Safari Highlights

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, followed by a launch cruise in the afternoon on the Kazinga Channel

Day 2: After an early morning game drive, you transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Day 3: Gorilla trekking with the option of visiting the Batwa community

Day 4: Return to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport

Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park followed by a launch cruise in the afternoon  on the Kazinga Channel (5-6 hours).

After an early breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Western Uganda. This journey takes you through some of the countryside areas. Have a brief stop at the Kayabwe equator crossing for a photography moment, continue driving to the park. Arrive at the park with lunch served at Mweya as your waiting for the boat ride on the Kazinga Channel.

Species seen on the two-hour boat cruise include a school of hippos, rear shoe bill stock, an elephant herd, and buffaloes. Later check at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge, Park View Lodge, and Enganzi Lodge.

Day 2: After an early morning game drive, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Today, wake up early for breakfast and then check out of the lodge before heading to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. An en-route game drive will allow you to photograph wildlife such as Uganda kobs, bushbucks, and lions. A quick lunch break in the Ishasha sector. Later in the afternoon, continue with a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp/Mahogany Springs.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking experience

Start your adventure trek to Bwindi’s mist-covered forests in search of the critically endangered mountain gorilla species. Depending on the gorillas’ movement, this might take between 1 to 8 hours.

According to the trekking regulations, if you have a gorilla encounter, you will only spend an hour in their front yard. Giving you a chance to take pictures while learning and observing the behaviors of these gentle giants in their natural habitat.

Later, return to the Park Headquarters where you will receive a certificate for mountain gorillas trekking before making your way to the lodge for dinner and the night as above on day 3.

Day 4: Return to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport

Get up early for breakfast, then check out of the lodge and drive back to Kampala. Take a lunch break in Mbarara and a brief stop to buy souvenirs at the Kayabwe equator crossing. Depending on your flight time, the journey will then continue to Kampala or Entebbe international airport.
